New HSK 1 Word List (2026): What Changed from 150 to 300 Words

The numbers

• 300 words in New HSK 1 (plus 200 more in New HSK 2, 500 in total)
• 143 of the 150 classic HSK 1 words are still in Level 1
• 157 words are new to Level 1
• Moved up to New HSK 2: 前面 qiánmiàn, 后面 hòumiàn, 饭馆 fànguǎn
• Not in New HSK 1–2 at all: 北京 Běijīng, 小姐 xiǎojiě, 没 méi (as its own entry; 没有 méiyǒu is still Level 1), 火车站 huǒchēzhàn

What this means: if you studied the old list, you are about halfway there. Focus on the 157 new words.

How to learn 300 words in 30 days

Learn 10–12 words a day by theme (greetings, family, food, time…), always inside a short sentence, and take a light review day once a week. Read each sentence aloud, then say it again without looking. For a day-by-day start, see New HSK Level 1: first two weeks.
