Study for the exam named on your registration. Use the New HSK syllabus for longer-term planning, but do not assume that every regular examination changed on one date. The official framework has three stages and nine levels, and the published New HSK syllabus identifies July 2026 as its effective date.

Learners commonly use “HSK 2.0” for the familiar six-level exam system and “HSK 3.0” for the newer three-stage, nine-level framework. These labels are useful shorthand, but your test center's exam notice and registration details are the practical source of truth for the paper you will sit.
