The "把" sentence is used when you want to express what you DO TO a specific, known object. The object (B) must be definite/specific — something both speaker and listener know about. Key rule: The verb in a 把 sentence CANNOT stand alone — it must be followed by something extra (了, a complement, a direction word, etc.). CRITICAL: Negatives (没/不/别) and modal verbs (想/可以/应该/要) MUST come BEFORE 把, never between 把 and the verb.
基本肯定句 · Basic Affirmative: A + 把 + B + V + 了/好/完/给/到/起来…
The verb must have a "tail" — 了 is the most common. You cannot say 把词典还 (no tail) — must say 把词典还了 ✅
"左右" (zuǒyòu) literally means "left and right" but is used to express approximate quantities, times, or amounts — equivalent to "about," "around," or "approximately" in English. CRITICAL position rule: In Chinese, 左右 ALWAYS comes AFTER the number or quantity word. This is the opposite of English "about," which comes BEFORE the number.
